@Kachina624  That tree looks majestic where it is....makes me sad it's going to DC. There are no words.

"Sad"?  It will bring joy to many, young and old alike.  Thank you, New Mexico, for sharing this gift with all of us.

@Kachina624 , there have been books written about the Halifax Explosion.  I think the last survivor died last year.  There are incredible stories related to this incident.

The Boston tree is a big annual event to honour Boston for their quick response to aid Halifax.  They hunt Province wide for the perfect tree to go to what we Nova Scotians call "The Boston States".  LM

Sorry but I'm not a fan of cutting down and killing something as majestic as a wonderlul live tree for this silly custom. I gave up killing a live tree years ago and am glad I did. Such a silly Christmas custom.

Christmas trees are farm grown specifically for that purpose.  A farm across the road let one of their lots go and now the trees are too high dense to chop down.

After the holidays the trees can be taken to the beach dunes to help prevent sand erosion.

This Carson National Park sells permits to chop down Xmas trees:

Permits for cutting Christmas trees on the Carson National Forest will be available starting Monday, November 19 through Friday, December 21. Each permit is $5 (for any species) up to 10 feet, $10 for over 10 feet - up to 15 feet, and $15 for over 15 feet - up to 20 feet. As many as three permits can be purchased per person. You may either cut or dig up your tree.

@Kachina624 Thank you for writing this post and attaching the picture.  I enjoyed reading your kind sentiment.  The tree is very beautiful and will be enjoyed by many.
