I think it's fine to mix the two.

I have simple china -- ivory with a silver band, and have some crystal. I love mixing the two. Both are timeless and classic, and I can always jazz it up with printed linens or a beautiful centerpiece.

Shop hq has a nice variety of Waterford crystal - wish I could afford the more expensive line but the less expensive line looks gorgeous too.

Based on the prices for which they're selling it, Waterford must have sunk to the level of Anchor-Hocking glass.
