My favorite candies over the years had always been:

 

York Peppermint Patties

Chuckles

Almond Joy

Goetze's Caramel Creams

Oh Henry!

 

It has been years since I have had any of them. DH & I don't ingest sugars/carbs/grains/seed oils anymore...

I never heard of the candy that the OP is talking about.

 

My memory of childhood Christmas candy would be this, clear rock candy,

or glass candy.
