Speaking of break ups, I recall reading that she & Sonny decided to divorce while they were still doing the Sonny & Cher show ... acting all lovey-dovey for the audience.

Either that was really difficult, or she can end relationships with throwing all the good away.  Must have been tough.

Hi Tink!  They were together when she was really young, 15-16.?  He was very controlling, but she loved him. They were extremely close and good friends.  Always good friend. When they divorced there wasn't a lot of anger...they saw each other often for the kids. And they remained close friends until his death. Sometimes I think when a younger girl marries young with older man there is often a strong bond. M I think of Celine and a few others. Maybe father figure who knows I think Cher gained confidence, grew and matured, became independent and felt more secure in her choices. That was the main rift. He was controlling.

I remember their early years very well.  I was stunned when Sonny Bono died in that skiing accident.  Cher spoke at his memorial service, and it was very moving.

Whether you like her music or not, she's had a very interesting life.

Me too!  I have always loved Cher and admired her tenacity to work her way through dyslexia to triumph in film~~~not an easy feat.

Then there's the fashionista part...no one could rock a pair of jeans or a Bob Mackie gown the way Cher could.

I saw her live in concert in Nashville, Tn. Only second to Elvis, she was spectacular!

Re: Cher and Alexander Edwards Have called it Quits!!!

@shoekitty, I am so envious! In 1965 I was a senior in high school in another state far away and already a huge Cher fan. I would loved to have met her at any time! Funny that 20 years later I ended up living in San Carlos. We miss the Circle Star terribly! I was too late for Sonny & Cher, but saw many great acts there over the years, including Frank Sinatra.

I did get to meet Sonny at Heavenly Lake Tahoe in the 70s. He was so nice, especially kind to the teens in my family group. We were skiing, so ironic that he died doing just that.

@CANDLEQUEEN

Was searching for something else when I came across this photo.

She was SO exotic looking in her youth.

@Trailrun23, The man is already rich but not on Cher's level, he didn't need money when he was with Cher.
