I shop at several stores, Fry's is where I buy the majority of my groceries. But also shop at Winco, Walmart, Safeway, Albertsons and Trader Joe's. All of these stores are very close to my home.
For paper goods I go to Costco and Sam's Club.
I wasn't a big fan of Ald's in the 1980's and my feelings about them haven't changed much. They've become very popular here in Arizona, but for me, their selection is still very limited. I go there about once a month and buy their bagged spinach.

I get most everything at Wal-Mart and Meijer. WM for staples such as boxed & canned items, bread, etc. and Meijer for eveything else (meat, cheese, produce and things that are out of stock at WM).
I've been to Aldi's a few times but didn't think prices were much better, if at all, than WM & Meijer.

Around here we have WinCo for low price. Some are house brands, which can be tricky. Good prices.
Then Costco, but here the quantity can be large, so clear out the freezer first.
Then Whole Foods or New Seasons more special items.

For me---personally---I find that AMZ Fresh has the best prices--I shop for groceries online exclusively, so I use it and then a few on InstaCart---Fred Meyer, QFC, Safeway----I can find good deals on Safeway but sometimes I get really wonky shoppers--mostly the guys---so don't use them much.

Alot of people diss Whole Foods--have to say, I've found some really great prices in there. I don't do my whole weeks shopping there but do pick up a few items.

@wagirl We used to shop Whole Foods weekly but don't go to Oklahoma City much any more. I agree that their store brands are great and prices good (maybe not the lowest but ok) for many items where their quality is great.
They also offer cheeses and olives and other things that most stores don't. It's what you buy--we don't buy a lot of soft drinks and snack foods, and things like that. But shopping the basics (olives are basics for us
) we did well there and the produce was fantastic!

Ah, stores that are familiar to me WA. FM and Costco are my go-to stores. I have seen the Safeway shopper dudes -- lol.
I recently tried delivery with Safeway. It was hit-and-miss:/

Here in the south Publix is a favorite. It has been a favorite of mine too. That being said, I can't afford to shop there any more. I've been shopping more at ALDI (who doesn't have everything I want/need but fills the bill on good value). I always try to find something new to try. However, if I like it I might not find it the next shopping trip. Also frequenting Wal-Mart too.

I live in a different area than the OP and things are clearly not the same all over, but the problem I have with the cheaper choices is they really can't provide a full shopping experience and I don't elect to physically go to a variety of different stores to obtain what I need.
I do agree with the poster that indicated Target, who I rely on for delivery of some things, really fails to timely stock their stores and the variety is very limited. I also have noted increased prices. Amazon Fresh, who I also rely on for delivery of some things, also has stocking and variety issues. My preferred stores are Giant, Harris Teeter and, to some extent, Safeway, but all are pricey, especially Safeway, and I no longer routinely go to the store, preferring delivery. All of the above deliver and I'll be giving some of them and Walmart a try, as I've grown weary of trying to 'make do' with Amazon and Target.

Although San Antonio offers Walmart, Target, Wholefoods, CostCo, Sams, Trader Joes, Natural Grocers.... the main Supermarket chain here and supermarket of Choice is HEB!....All the other national chains were run out of town by HEB undercutting their prices!
Now the unique thing about the pricing in HEB stores if there is competition nearby you will find lower prices than HEB stores without any nearby competition. Their store brand products are good and lower in price than the national brands. There are also stores that have problems with stocking merchandise....I see way too many employees on their phones instead of working or their chatting with coworkers and unpacked boxes in front of them, or unpacked products left on top shelves....You gotta know which HEBs to shop at in our city!!! The other store options are usually higher priced than HEB!
