Once again, guns don't kill people... people with guns kill people. If a person owns a gun, they need to be a responsible owner and not leave access to children or vandals or friends or family or whatever. It is a huge responsibility that some don't take seriously. Again, I consider myself not that dumb, and I don't understand the connection of the celebrities? Most of these shootings are happening by mentally disturbed individuals that want to end their own lives, but take others down with them. There is a big difference between arming yourself for protection, and being in possession of weapons with the intent to kill. JMO.
No, guns don't kill people. Neither do cars, but we have all kinds of licensing, rules and regulations to minimize traffic accidents and fatalities. Does it eliminate them completely? Of course not. But without those controls in place, life on the road would be disastrous. I'm not against people owning guns, but I don't understand why responsible gun owners are opposed to a few more regulations, like background checks for people buying guns off the internet or at gun shows. No, it won't eliminate guns getting into the hands of the wrong people, but it might slow them down and prevent a few more fatalities. To me, that's worth waiting an extra couple of weeks to get my gun. Small inconvenience. Gun control is not about taking away second amendment rights.

Someone I knew from high school sent me a "joke" about how some townsfolk found a large cache of guns, ammo, etc. in their library and how surprised they were . . . however, their surprise was not because of the guns, it was because they didn't know they had a library.
That says it all, IMO.

Hello Vamp. I doubt most responsible gun owners are against a few more regulations such as background checks and etc. I don't think people should be able to buy off the internet and as for gun shows they shouldn't be able to take the gun home that day (or is that already against the law?).
I think the issue (on these boards at least) is that many here don't appear to be satisfied until all guns are rounded up and people who own them have a "G" branded on their forehead.

I thought the heading was a bit sarcastic as well....not lost on most of us as OP might think. Amazing how many people think the 2nd amendment is actually something they are allowed to practice by owning a gun...and how hypocritical some celebs are who insist all guns be taken away from law-abiding citizens yet insist their own bodyguards are heavily armed......

Hi Scottie & Vamp,
Scottie pretty much said what I was thinking. Vamp, I bolded the part of your comment I want to address. I don't own a gun, but I could, and I have many friends who are gun owners, and as previously mentioned I once dated a police officer. I am all for people having the right to own guns, but with a HUGE caveat, there needs to be much tighter regulation on who can get them and where they can get them. Background checks right now are practically a joke, there needs to be more thorough investigation, and of course even then it won't eliminate the crazies getting access to them. I don't think most responsible gun owners are opposed to more regulation. Of course the ones that make a living off selling guns at shows will oppose that, but those people are not the majority of gun owners. Most gun owners are not stocking up for the apocalypse, they are your every day neighbor that wants one for protection and hopes they never have to use it. I am completely opposed to any gun purchases over the internet, think it should be outlawed. If you go to cash a check in a bank that is not yours they take your thumb print, yet someone can buy an assault rifle online? Not okay with me. There is much in the "system" that needs change, but I will forever stand by my belief that a "normal" citizen that can pass a thorough background check, and a waiting period, should be allowed to own a gun. There will always be exceptions to the rules, no system is perfect, but our current one could certainly be improved.

Exactly right, Jules. And there are people who enjoy collecting them. Not for the apocolypse or any such but just like women collect jewelry for example. Really how many necklaces and earrings and bracelets does one need? Many of us buy jewelry because we enjoy the different stones, the metals, the design etc. It is the same with many people who collect guns.
They often have a history of make, the wood on the stock, the way they work, the history of "grandpa's gun". Etc. Etc. ETc. There is no nefarious reason usually.
There are nuts, always have been nuts and always will be nuts who will find a way to kill people for any reason or no reason.
We should tighten up the laws but it won't stop the nuts, sadly.

I agree with your comments, Vamp. I'm not against guns, the 2nd Am just tightening up the laws and access to assault and assault-type weapons. I am also a gun owner and a responsible one too, I think.
What I am against is the bullying NRA and their paid off politicians who ignore their membership, constituents and sensible regulations. The crazier their leaders talk the more emboldened the mentally ill and fearful others become.
