Sharon Tate's sister Debra said a prayer for his soul, just as she did when Susan Atkins died.  In fact she cried and placed flowers on a crucifix for Susan.

Amazing that a survivor of having a loved one slaughtered could be compassionate and firm in her faith.  A lesson to take note.

Misplaced compassion in my book.....

@ScarletDove  That is for Debra to decide.  It was her sister and unborn niece/nephew who was slaughtered.

Debra's compassion isn't misplaced, jmoymmv.  I'm sure her priority is and will always be her sister and her baby.

I applaud Debra;   she kept up the fight to keep them all in jail yet could still find a way to feel some compassion.

That takes a very, very strong woman.  Not many could fill her shoes.

@Cakers3  You are indeed correct, that is for Debra to decide.  Misplaced compassion is my personal opinion. I simply have no compassion for evil in any form, it is our grasp of humanity or lack thereof and how we would or do personally handle an evil of this nature.  We each decide based on our own experiences, ability and/or philosophy.  I have never been faced with any kind of experience as Debra so I cannot relate to her mentality in the heinous loss of her sister and baby.....  I was 7 months pregnant with my first child when this happened and my heart bled then and still bleeds for Sharon Tate and her unborn baby, not her killers.

@ScarletDove ... To me it sounds like the murder of her sister and unborn niece or nephew hit her so hard that in order to go on with her life....in order for her to remain sane so she could attend each of their parole meetings....she had to shove down inside of her the reality of what happened or she could have gone into a deep depression....therefore she felt this was the only way to get through this. She is a very, very strong woman! She did NOT have misplaced compassion! This is her way of getting through this!!

I know about this....having to do this....but certainly not on this deep a level.

@EastCoastGalFor me it would be misplaced compassion, not Debra, she did what she had to do for herself. You may be very right about Debra, only she knows what she needed to do to live with this travesty...thanks for your thoughts....

@puttypiesmom

I understand and respect what you say and feel about this.

But I think it is important that since things like this will happen again, people be aware of how evil is, what it looks like, and how it works. If it allows people some insight to protect themselves, or to intervene when they know someone is crazy or evil like this, and that saves lives, it makes having to endure his (their) existence necessary, if not pleasant.

Many things we need to know, are indeed things we don't want to.

Re: Charles Manson, dead at 83

Debra's prayer will help her because she had some compassion, Maybe some forgiveness. I don't know if I could pray for him if I were her. I admire her for that. Forgiveness sets us free. I wonder if she believes that ? To stay bitter eats us alive.
