Did my Sunday morning Target run (love it because the place is empty). I've read Target is going to be making some changes to their store. So far, at my store, they removed the jewelry counter and replaced that area with more women's clothing. (Frankly, I think they have way too many clothes crammed together - you can't even get your cart through fashion). The only other change I've noticed is that they put maternity in with the sleepwear. Have you noticed any changes at your store?

There is a small Target being built near the college here. I have 2 big complaints with Target. First they don't have enough cashiers and they want you to take a whole basket of groceries through the self check aisle. Of course, you can't take alcohol through there. Secondly, you will see different prices in the store than on their website. They also got rid of the grocery items I like best. The store is really pathetic now.

We have one small target. Never liked it and not sure why. I always opt to go to Walmart, seems to be more progressive and has the items I like and people around to help out just in case we cannot find what we are looking for.

I really like Target. I just wish their shopping carts weren't so wide. Beyond that, I noticed last week that they're adding an optical department. Other than that, didn't notice anything else going on (yet).

The Target store nearest me, it's actually attached to my office building where I work, is undergoing massive changes, and they've stayed open the entire 2+ months thus far. There is not one aspect of the store that has remained the same:
* ripped up white floor tile and replaced with a very light birch wood looking tile.
* demolished the small in-store Starbucks for a much larger, full restaurant Starbucks.
* doubled the self-service stations by putting them at either ends of the store.
* replaced the entire ceiling tile and lighting fixtures
* diverse culture home decor section with items representing decor from all over the world (not sure where they are actually made).
* creating shopping categories that offer what they call complete wardrobe centers -- clothes are together with shoes and jewelry and handbags, instead of each section being separate and all over the store.
* kitchen appliances section is now huge to offer fuller lines of each brand and more brands
* groceries section huge now, like a separate supermarket inside a Target.
* bigger garden section
* Interesting...the sections that look like they have not expanded, and actually look like they have even in shrunk in size: children's toys, electronics.
They are not even finished yet. I sit all day at my desk, so I force myself to get up to move my muscles. I take a 15 minute walk to Target, walk through the store, and back upstairs again. The changing scenery in the store every day is nice.

They closed the two Target stores closest to me so I don't shop there any more. I used to like shopping there. Seemed it was always clean and organized.

TARGET is exploring new waves in shopping. They had a temporary pop-up store in downtown SF at Christmas time.
Now they are trying out smaller stores around here that are mostly groceries and basics, All this while still having the really large stores with everything.
COSTCO is doing something similar. Their downtown store is smaller and is mostly food, but they have wonderful items and a large butcher area.
TRADER JOE'S DOWNTOWN is also different than their usual stores. It's a walk-in store with an emphasis on fancier food products
The DOWNTOWN SAFEWAY is also geared to more upscale food products.

I am not sure if they improved, but the + size department was so small.

@hoosieroriginal- so far, I've only noticed the removal of the jewelry counter.
