...In one case the parents won, and in the trial they asked when their daughter's addiction started....they said age 6 and 9.
Call me "old school," but with all of the body shaming, suicides, etc. caused by social media bullying, there is NO way in you-know-where that my 6 or 9 year-old child would own a cellphone!!!

Seems like the easiest solution......
Or
There's parental built-in settings that allow parents
to limit how much time a child can spend on a cell phone and can designate which aaps they can use each day and how long and these settings are protected with a unique Screen Time passcode that your child does not know.

@Spurt I think what @LavernLuvsShoes might have been saying as a parent you can "rig" a child's phone to block any data, website, or time the phone. Even put a tracker on it so you know where your kids is at all times. But here is where I chuckle, having had had 3 kids myself, and helping watch and raise 8 grandkids. kids today will figure out a way. I don't care how naive and young you think they are! lol. If they Dont think of a way to go around the blocks, timers, and figure out how to de-program it, lol..their friends will! . Oh boy, will they!!

It is not only what you just described but it is also suggestive photos that kids can send to each other. I wish I could tell you what some parents have found on their children's phones but then the post would be deleted.

I totally understand what @LavernLuvsShoes was saying and totally agree with her!
Oh yes, even if kids dont have a phone, if they are young, they can even go to a friends house and use the friend's phone...If there's a will, there's a way.....But if they use a friend's phone, I bet that friend will get tired of sharing their phone too. Or that parent will inquire about why that kid is over at their house so much and tell their child go to your friend's house and play too....An alert parent, a REAL parent will figure something out....somethings going on!!!
Now older kids, they can go anywhere and use a friend's phone....or whine and cry to their grandparents for a phone, and the grandparents will give em what they want!!! Yes, kids can be crafty!
The parents can keep their own phones with themselves at all times and find a way to monitor and put away other family phones up after time restrictions have been implemented
Also, good parents will have good communication and a relationship with their kids, discuss the dangers, warn them about sex traffickers, bullies, and how people of all ages can be deceptive. Implement family rules with firm consequences for violations....Be diligent parents and show as an adult they are smarter than their kids!!!
There was a father who shared a story of how his daughter was being groomed by a handsome friend and an adult in the hopes they could lure her in to their sex trafficking business....and these people were experts in brainwashing deception, recruitment, and exploitation as well as the FIA could do with a prisoner! One of the items they used to lure the girl and communicate with her was her phone. Well this alert dad got wind of what was going on, and with the help of federal, state, and local agencies ....they shut down the sex trafficking operation, the girl and her parents had to go through extensive counseling to deprogram their child. SO THIS IS THE WORSE POSSIBLE CASE....and law enforcement has set these guidelines which are perfect for guidelines for parents with kids using everyday social media and technology:
Parents should stay up to date with new apps as they become popular – and before your kids access them. Check the kids’ devices frequently and thoroughly, including activity, messages and contacts. Set appropriate parental control, such as age restrictions for downloading apps and time restrictions. Most importantly, maintain a connected relationship with your children. While safety features are helpful, you should rely more on your relationship with them than filters and other safeguards. Remember, at the end of the day, a child’s safety is more important than their privacy. As a parent or guardian, you aren’t being nosy by checking their cell phone regularly. You are being cautious.
After, all the counseling the girl was even given a phone with extensive parental controls and parental monitoring of both the child and the phone.....And the child got thru this horrendous experience..
But the key is good communication/relationship ....Like one of my friends has with her grandchildren....they are the most well behaved kids you can ever meet...and they know how loved they are too...i told her she should offer parenting classes 😆

@Spurt yes, and kids today are technical. They are like sponges from a young age. When my great grandson was one, learned how to open a phone, push button, say hi and blabber into it , only from watching. He never handled one. He learned from watching. Kids today in grammer school know technical maneuvers on phones I don't know. I am 78, when I can't do something on my computer or phone...ask a kid. Those kids share all kinds of info amongst themselves!!!! Even on devices their parents don't have, they know! I will say, "where in the jeck did you learn that?" They reply, "friends" or "school"!,, . That's why I personally believe this is where a child's frinds can make a difference in their life! For good, or bad. Always best to know all your child's friends they hang with !
