Unfortunately trophy hunting is nothing new and will continue on, sadly.

However, what made this story to the news is the fact that Cecil was lured out of the preserve; had that not happened it would have been just anothe wildlife killed for nothing more that a trophy to shore up some person's ego.

I may commend people for their sadness but honestly most folks are going to calm down and continue on with their own lives while trophy hunting continues.  If we are to be outraged about Cecil then we should be outraged continuously about every creature slain.

And once the Cecil beanies hit the stores - how many will be see on auction sites?

Plenty.  This will end not about Cecil but about $$ to be made off of this tragedy.

Now it appears Jericho abandoned the cubs, and then one of the two was killed.  I guess the other doesn't have long either.  If only Dr. Walter Palmer had known what trouble he would cause.

I guess I will have to add trophy hunting to me seemingly endless list of things I must be concerned about in this world.  Where to put it on the list is the question.

Cecil had 8 cubs.  One was killed.  I haven't seen updates about the other 7.

debc,

This is a legal activity, and I bet no one but the researchers even knew the lions name.

Walter Palmer baited Cecil off of a well established Wildlife Preserve which is not legal, nor was hunting an animal wearing a collar, obviously he knew it was a Preserve or he wouldn't have gone to the trouble of getting Cecil OFF of it.  He also attempted to bury the tracking collar.

And as far as the 40 hour thing. He could have just left him to suffer instead of spending that 40 hours to find him. All meat hunters know that you track a wounded animal until you find it to try to end it's suffering as soon as possible, this isn't always as easy as people seem to think it is.

Walter Palmer tracked Cecil in order to remove multiple body parts, and video tape his death, not because he was hunting for meat, or trying to end Cecil's suffering.  I can feel no sympathy for any difficulties Palmer encountered in meeting his objectives.

Pearlee,  I was DISagreeing with the original post by esmaraldagooch....  I am like you and love animals.  I do not think it's too much...  I posted several times on the other thread about Cecil.  Read it and you will see my opinions of what should happen to this idiot who killed him.

Sorry, KatieB, I edited my post and fixed that. Thank you for pointing it out.  I messed up the quoting.  Thanks again.

The sad thing is, it took a lion with a name to bring this to light. Trophy hunting has been going on along time. There are private hunting ranches here in the states where you can hunt "moose, buffolo, and other wild animals this way. This has ALWAYS been an outrage, good that people are finally paying attention. But most Trophy heads hanging in in lodges and homes were collected this way, (not all hunters) BUT hunters out for a "troohy" are only interested in the "trophy head, not the rest of the animal.. CRUEL, no matter if it is a lion with a name or an unsuspecting moose. Coward hunters are what they are to me.

Not trying to be mean, to be honest, I've kinda of seen a lot of people who are not interested in this story posting on the threads.   Just curious why.

As for me, I got the gist of what happened with Cecil.I wouldn't read the "details" here, or anywhere.  I know what happened and that is enough.  It is too painful for me.  I actually get sick.  I support my animal rescues and different causes, but I will not look at pictures of hurt, maimed or starving animals.  I turn the channel when I even see the ASPCA commercials.  You can't get those pictures out of your head.  It haunts me too much.  I know what goes on , I spent too many years in animal rescue.  I can't take it any more.  I actually contribute finacially to rescues, and will help with the disabled or old kitties, but that is as far as I go actually dealing with animal rescue. It is like PTSD, the images flash in my head, and it is too painful

But personally I think that those who want to discuss it, should.  The discussion should go on until these autrocities have ended, and should continue long after , so as to not begin again

shoekitty,

I have a great deal of respect for you knowing you have done rescues, and certainly know the pain of the images.  There are things I will never forget, but somehow the need to try and do SOMETHING keeps me going.  Much appreciation for what you have done and continue to do.
