I had never heard of Fisher Cats or Fishers but just read about them. Not aggressive to humans or children, dogs etc and they don't scream but foxes do. I was so glad to read that because at my daughters there would be awful screaming sounds and we do have foxes. They do scream when mating. Ok guys keep it down out there!!

I have had Fisher cats in the woods in back of my house. They do scream, like a squalling baby. It's eerie. They are very large and have rows of very sharp teeth. I've heard them but only saw one up close late at night driving home. The fisher cat crossed the road in front of my car. It was black and very long and big. Scared me as it was going in the direction of my home. The pictures I'd seen didn't show me the size. It was as long as a beagle but lower to the ground.

My town has had several bobcat sightings and there are more in the next state. Our state environment folks say they have begun migrating north in the last few years. They are lovely and seem to be shy of people.

@LdyBugz... Oh, he looks like a cutie to me but that's easy for me to say because I don't have him roaming around our backyard making terrifying sounds.  lol

You mentioned in your post that you are in Boston...I'm in CT so I'm sure that we must have them roaming around the State here also...I just haven't crossed paths with one...yet that is.  

We have had a few Coyotes in the past roaming around and they make some eerie howling sounds.

I imagine that Wildlife probably thinks that us humans can make some terrifying sounds also.  lol

Javalinas are very common here in Arizona. I see them during my morning walks. They have poor eyesight, but will attack dogs, mistaking them for coyotes who try to eat their babies.

@deeva ...Wow, so people walking their dogs must be very vigilant....Have they ever shown any signs of aggression towards people...I was thinking, when you go walking, do you carry some sort of defense just in case one does become aggressive for whatever reason?

@MyShadowLove  A few years ago, a friend of mine heard wild screaming and an unfamiliar screeching coming from outside.  She ran to see what all the commotion was about.  Her kids were sitting on the deck, and their cat was lounging on the deck with them.  Then she noticed that a fishercat was on the steps of the deck making the horrible screeching noise.  😬  She grabbed the cat and they all ran inside.  

Yes, coyotes run rampant here.  I wouldn't doubt they are in your area.  There's frequent news reports alerting folks in certain areas when a coyote is causing trouble.

You can bet your bottom dollar that *I* would make a terrifying noise if I saw any of these critters mentioned!

@LdyBugz ...Whoa!...That is definitely getting a little too close for comfort!...How scary!...it definitely had its eyes on the cat....Thank goodness your friend and her kids were able to move fast enough to grab the cat and get inside...I bet they are very much on the lookout now whenever trying to relax on their deck, as I'm sure it must have had a lasting affect on them!  

About five or so years ago, my husand and I were driving home late one evening (approx. 1:00 a.m.) after getting together with friends....As we drove down our street and got near our house, we noticed something laying in the middle of the road in front of our next door neighbor's house...It appeared to be licking itself and we were able to make out that it was a Coyote....It wasn't startled at all by our car, which we found very strange...We drove into our garage and went inside our house and before going to bed, I checked on it a few times and it was still just laying there.

The next morning, we got a call from our elderly neighbor...She was hysterical and said that there was a Coyote laying at the bottom of her back steps...She said it wasn't moving and was just laying there...We called Animal Control ...It turns out that the Coyote was rabid...We always thought that rabid animals are always very aggressive; however, we learned that they can act either very docile or very aggressive...This one was obviously very docile.
