@cheriere That is a javelina and they are wild, and also protected, so no killing or hunting.  They usually don't want anything to do with humans, but they can be a threat if you are waking a dog, and they have little ones nearby.  Javelinas associate dogs with coyotes, their natural predator, so javelinas have been known to go on the offensive and attack people with dogs.

What is that?  A wild hog?  Pretty flowers!!

@santorini.  Javalina.  Not a feral hog but a wild species which can be dangerous.

Yes, I just googled and read about them.  It said their eyesight is poor and if they see you walking with a dog, they could assume that the dog is a coyote or another type of animal that would attack the javelina so it might show aggression toward the dog or the person.

Oh No!  I can't believe I've never heard of these.  I'll bet they can really do some damage whether it be plants or pets!  That's scary.
My dad's gonna get a kick out of this picture.  Thank you so much for sharing this most unusual animal.😃❤️

Living in Southern Arizona I'm been familiar with Javelina since I was a child.  They are protected here, but there is a Javelina hunting season January/February.  If we see a Javelina while walking the dogs, we just turn and go the other way.  They will knock over trash receptacles, eat some flowers, etc.  They do have a strong musky odor.  The baby Javelina are absolutely adorable!  We have lived with them harmoniously, we just leave them alone.

It's scary out there!

I have heard of javelinas but never knew what they looked like.

I had never heard of Fisher Cats or Fishers but just read about them. Not aggressive to humans or children, dogs etc and they don't scream but foxes do. I was so glad to read that because at my daughters there would be awful screaming sounds and we do have foxes. They do scream when mating. Ok guys keep it down out there!!

Javelinas are as intelligent as dogs. They can recognize individual people and they understand some words, just like dogs do. They have been known to mourn their dead. They are an emotional animal and have feelings.

They have the most delicate little hooves in comparison to their bodies.
