Cat poop question

I mean, I have enough litter boxes and I clean them allot so the actual litter boxes don't smell But the poop I take out of the boxes? How do you guys dispose of it. I'll put it in a plastic bag, tie it up and take it out to the outside can. But when I open the can again I almost get knocked down by the smell. In the summer I could smell it throughout the yard coming from the can. I got some disposable bags that are made to put diapers in but they weren't any better. I would love any suggestions. Thanks,
