The cardinal is the state bird for West Virginia, and rarely a day goes by that you don't see one.

My parents loved cardinals, and had many items with cardinals on it in their home.  The day my dad died, we left the hospital, came home, and that afternoon a male cardinal sat at my parents feeder for 10 minutes while we stood on the porch looking at it.  I always think of, and feel my dad when I see this bird.

5 weeks ago we moved mom out of her house into 24/7 care.  As I drove away from the home, a male cardinal was sitting to my left when I reached the stop sign, and flew away after I stopped.  I told my SIL "there's Daddy!"  As many signs as I've had over the 20 years since my dad passed, I truly feel Daddy was letting me know he was there to watch over Mom.  The rest of my family still struggles with moving Mom out of the house, but I feel true peace in my heart that she's where she needs to be.

Thank you @KKlim it means a lot to me.  I try to look beyond people's quick judgements and argumentative comments here.  I don't always succeed, but I try.

@coffee drinker

Thank you.  Mom is in the last phase of dementia; she is 89 and functions on the level of a 3 year old.   I am comforted by the feeling my Dad is watching over Mom for her last days, and will rejoice when she is with him.

@RedTop It's important to take care of yourself now and be strong.

Even though we live in the midwest, it seems that we see more cardinals in the winter now then in the summer.  This summer was almost all blue jays and robins.

I do love it when they land on our snow covered trees in the winter.  I look out our picture window and it looks like a beautiful Christmas card. Sparkles and all!

In the Spring they chatter on about butterflies bringing messages from loved ones who passed. It's always something.

@traveler   Exactly.  Cardinals are a beautiful symbol for some; simply touching & lovely.

But QVC hosts are told to manufacture emotions to try to get shoppers to near tears.  They're taught that part of the psychology of sales is they go up when shoppers get teary and emotional.

Some hosts do it ad nauseam.  It doesn't bother me.  I just ignore it as yet another sales tactic from a long list of sales tactics.

This is just my belief. I think God uses all sorts of things to bring us comfort and peace. It may be nature, animals, birds, a poem, etc....many things. While I don't believe people return to earth once they are gone....I do believe we may be allowed  to see and hear things that revive memories and moments and give us comfort and peace...and that is a good

thing! I find anything in nature to be a great comfort in times of sadness, sorrow and sickness.
