I don't miss him.

Yes! Very few car sales reps would EVER act as stupidly as some QVC hosts behave.
JMO, of course.

@coffee drinker They sound like salesmen, because THEY ARE salesmen. They're not your friends, or confidants, or anything like that. They're trying to get you to buy a product or service whether or not you really want it or need it. That's their job. That's how they keep their jobs. I don't like salesmen. Unfortunately they are a fact of business life. I take their "pitches" with a grain of salt, or I use my remote.

I do realize it's a hosts job to sell, but not this way.
It's absolutely the way it should be done in these days of steep online competition. The days of conversational hosting on QVC are long over. They had no competition back then and were forging their own road.
ITA ... it's a shopping channel.
Many retailers have gone out of business. You can buy just about anything on Amazon these days. The competition is very steep.
I still buy from QVC but rarely watch presentations. I can only imagine the pressure placed on the hosts to sell MORE.

Q is in a lot of financial trouble.
Their stock was kicked off the market because it couldn't even maintain $1 per share.
Their financial reports have reported losses for many years now.
Their marketing schemes are ridiculous and often ageist.
It's like groundhog day on Q....airing the same things week after week, year after year.
Hosts are expected to do acrobatics if it makes a sale. So many behave like pre-teens on air under the guise of trying to be family. They aren't our friends or acquantances and will never be. They're salespeople trying to keep their jobs.

Years ago, a friend sold cars for approximately a year and said he'd never do it again.
Reason?
How often do people actually purchase cars? NOT very often.
I buy groceries on a regular basis, but the last time I bought a car was 11 years ago!
So, someone coming into a dealership to look at cars may be a now-or-never situation for the salesperson.
Additionally, people can do all their research on the internet these days, and only the test drive remains. You can't do a meaningful test drive on the internet ... yet.

We are now seeing the most desperate time of the year for the Q. With their online shipping delivery being 7-10 days, it's over on the l5th.
Hosts have the most pressure to sell in these last few days. And, frankly, they're sounding crazy!
The day after Christmas, all decorations will disappear. And on to spring fashion, Valentine Day, Irish days, et al.
The Q's been selling Christmas since late June. So, their "Christmas" financials won't be as large, and we'll hear the sad news.
I hope I'm wrong, but I've been around this block so many times.
