DD and DSIL have a 7 year old female Dobie (spayed never had puppies). She was diagnosed with bone cancer in her front leg the end of April. Vet thought originally, mid March, a sprain, etc. so prescribed anti-inflammatory meds and she seemed to be doing betther. Then just as she was getting well, she started limping again and daughter found a small lump. The lump is growing. Kids do not want to put their fur baby through the bone sample surgery and the vet(s), they did get a second opinion, have said from the x-rays they are 95% sure. They were told the surgery would be extremely painful for their fur-baby, long recuperation period and that the bone would be very fragile due to where bone tissue would be removed. The growth in between the two front leg bones.
Any recommendations for food or holistic meds. that may help make her comfortable? The kids are more concerned with giving her a good quality of life and control her pain for the time she has left. Vets can not give tell them how long she may have left, but are guessing 12 - 18 months. DD and DSIL went on recent two week vacation with us and selected a boarding facility that is very familiar with elderly and/or medical needs dogs and cats. The lady at the "ranch" said dog was slow but seemed to do very well. She walked dog and played with her separately from the other dogs, to include the kids' 3 1/2 year old male Dobie. He's a little rough with the female at times. Anyway, DD said last night that the lump is definitely larger than it was before we went on vacation and dog is not putting much weight, if any, on the leg.
Recommendations, advise and prayers appreciated. Will share with DD.
TIA!
