It's the "pull" in the yellow one.......the yellow is basically a square and a rectangle....when you move the yellow from the top to the bottom, you end up with the void because now only the rectangle part of the yellow is resting on the green step which is shorter then the top.......then you just move the triangle pieces to the opposite positions because you've changed length and angle from the original................................raven

It's an optical illusion. They are not really triangles. Compare closely the top diagonal line of both shapes relative to the white squares. It is not the same and that slight difference adds up to the area of the one missing white square. The overall total area of both shapes is the same however.

They're quadrilaterals. The slopes at the top create the difference when the shapes are moved.

actually........it's a spacial puzzle and if you think about it......designing kitchens IS a spacial puzzle LOL....taking "boxes" and making them work in a restricted amount of space but with an end result of it looking like one piece.....I do that stuff all day long LOL...............................raven

Yes, it's geometry. It's funny when people say there's no practical use of the math taught in school, because truly we do use it in everyday life.Smile
