I'm at Costco and the cashier says "do you have your card, hun?" and after that everything was "hun"

Then I'm at Macy's and this older woman called me "hun" again.

First I thought this must be the lingo of 20 year olds but then that woman at Macy's was in her 60's.  So my assumption is wrong, do you use that to talk to other women?

I checked my license and credit cards, it doesn't read "hun"???

I don't hear it often, but it is tacky, tasteless, and rudely personal.

"Hun" doesn't bother me as much as someone calling me by my first name after looking at my credit card.

in baltimore and some surrounding areas you hear the word "hon" quite a bit.......it is definitely  a "thing" here.......we even have a HON-FEST.

I don't think it has anything to do with age and I don't like the sound of it either!!  I feel it is just a habit with some and they probably don't even hear themselves!  I just brush it off and go on my merry way!!Woman Wink

I agree.

Just as wrong as using "sweetie" esp. here on the board when used in a sarcastic manner.   In fact, such a post was recently removed by a Mod at my request within the past week.

I do not tolerate being called "hun" or "honey" or "sweetheart" (I put a stop to the latter when the checker at the exit door of Sam's Club kept doing that - I spoke to a female manager specifically who solved that problem for me).  That is just not acceptable professional conduct in the workplace in the year 2017, I don't care who was raised in the south or whose "habit" it is.
