I must say that anyone who fears anwering the phone just because they don't know who is calling....should probably just have it taken out. So what if you don't recognize the caller? So what if a telemarketer gets through? Hang up! How sad it is when people are fearful of a ringing phone.

It gets annoying to answer, then wait a few seconds for someone to come on the line and then they shriek my name usually mispronouncing it. It's better just to ignore unknown numbers. If it's important they'll call back or use my cell number which all family and friends have. I just cannot be bothered with these invasions of privacy several times a day. "Sad"?? "Fear" ?? It's neither of those. I resent the calls.

{#emotions_dlg.thumbup1} I do too (and I don't have a landline anymore so why should *I* get minutes charged to my cell for telemarketers?)

There was plenty of action on the Do Not Call thread a few days ago and many posters agreed on these invasions.

I am not fearful. I am just not compelled to answer every time the phone rings. My phone is for my convenience, not yours.{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Why is this such a big deal to some people? Say "I'm not interested" and hang up. Some day you could miss an important call by not answering. What are you afraid the person on the phone is going to do to you?

Same with being afraid to answer the door.

At the door? Force their way in and rob you and perhaps beat you up? Especially if you are old. People I don't know have no good reason to ring our door bell. And whatever it is they are selling, we don't want. How many times is it worthwhile to go to the door when a stranger is there? I can't think of any. . .

Phone? Why would I spend my time chasing around the house to answer and hang up on callers I don't want to talk to. If it is something or someone I need, I will recognize the i.d. Otherwise I am not going to waste time answering.
