We can all sleep a little better now. I hope they throw the book at this guy.
April 8 (UPI) - Indian police said they arrested a suspected mastermind behind a $300 million call center scam that targeted Americans.
Sagar Thakkar, 24, also known as Shaggy, was arrested late Friday after he arrived at Mumbai airport from Dubai. Officials said he ran dozens of India-based call centers since 2013 and trained employees to target some 15,000 U.S. citizens by posing as Internal Revenue Service employees. The callers allegedly threatened the victims with legal action if they were not given access to bank accounts for debts that didn't exist, local news reported.
In October, the Justice Department charge 61people in India and the United States in connection to the scheme. Thakkar allegedly fled the country at the time

Many others and I know never to give out information. If it helps a few of our friends here - it is worth it. I hate that so much of my information is out there.
I'm sure there will be some that will say - who doesn't know not to give out information? How many people know you shouldn't leave pets and kids in a car alone? Don't drink and drive. Don't text and read emails while driving. It happens and thank you for posting. Yes - there will always be more scammers and new ways to get to you.
I should be like my dad. Cash only. No credit cards and no computers. But then he is 92. lol

People who are naive enough to fall that garbage can't sleep too soundly. Do you know how big India is? There are hundreds, if not thousands, of similar outfits doing a brisk business. 61 arrests is laughable...not worth reporting. There is way to stop it though, people just have to stop listenting to those calls and learn to hang up.

I''ve been getting calls like that on my cell phone. Apparently, there's arrest warrant out for me but if I want to settle the debt, I can call a certain number to take care of the matter...lol

IRS Never! Demands payment by phone. To this day feel sorry for people unaware of this. Knowledge is power. Your right, Probably someone already in place. Same with the Mexican Drug Lord finally captured immediately another took his place. So remember! Never send money or give personal information. Thanks again for sharing. You never know who you helped with highlighting this crime.
@Sweet_Serenity Not true anymore. The IRS will begin using third parties to collect money. What a bonehead move. Anyway, you will be notified in writing before it goes to a collector and the collector will be required to notify you in writing before calling. Leave it to the IRS🙄
