I live in KY and have worked in the throughbred world for over 20 years.

For you to state that something is wrong with this horse's condition based on the charges against Asmussen (who has NOTHING to do with California Chrome) is absurd.

I agree with you Kitty, and I posted under the Mint Julep thread... my godparents bred and raised thoroughbred race horses, and they ARE NOT ALL abused for sure.

Here is an article on Lasix...the drug given to horses to dehydrate them before races...BTW - horse doping is banned in Europe!

As the article states - can you imagine an Olympic athlete who could legally have 28 different drugs in his/her system?

It's not just THIS horse...it's all of them.

It's one step above watching a dog fight.

Only 4 of the trainers in the Derby allowed their horses medical records and drug records to be released...that says a lot, IMO.

Seriously, you don't need to tell me about horse racing. As I stated, I've been around racehorses for a LONG time.

Are there abuses? Yes. But really, you don't know anything about it except what you read in the newspaper.

I grew up around horses. My jumper was a claimer my dad got at a thoroughbred race track. The hunter was an Arabian.

They weren't racehorses, but I showed them in jumping events.

I have followed thoroughbred racing very closely over the years...it saddens me.

My godparents raced horses at Santa Anita in California.... and again, they never doped them up. You use general statements for the entire horse racing "industry" when there are plenty of owners and trainers that don't do that. It's fine to point out the abuse, it should be acknowledged and changed, BUT it is unfair for you to group them all together.

I love his story too...but look at how dehydrated he is in that picture...he looks like a bodybuilder in a contest...not healthy for man nor beast!

I don't think that is dehydration ...that is pure lean muscle. A beautiful specimen of a fabulous horse. What a magical story!

Look, I've worked with both good and bad in this business, so you can't tell me anything about it I don't already know.

But it ticks me off when you color ALL owners and trainers with the same brush. Because that is just NOT true.

But I absolutely agree that the doping is a huge issue and needs to stop. There are many in the business who are working to correct the problem. I know some of them. I work with some of them.
