In the new clip for the E! show about Caitlyn, her voice is still that of Bruce.
It is a bit disjointed seeing Caitlyn speaking but the voice is very masculine.
I am wondering if there is a way to change someone's voice to be more feminine in gender transitions? I think Chaz Bono sounds more masculine than he did as Chastity.
Does anyone know?

I think hormones have something to do with it. I suppose if the person is serious enough about it, he or she could work with a voice coach.

I thought some kind of hormone treatment. How does science deal with the large masculine hands and thick neck?. Soon to be balding and receeding hairline too? Hairy legs, underarms, and other areas? Lots of work to be done and the upkeep must be costly.

When I took the course in social work school, the woman who came in to describe her trans experience spoke quietly in a higher register. But then, for dramatic effect - she used her "real" male voice - loud, low and booming!!!
She did say that many use voice coaches...but hormones won't make an appreciable difference with most people.

Watching her looking like a woman but talking like Bruce in his voice, makes it appear more she is in drag. I don't mean that disrespectfully, but the voice makes it hard to appeciate the changes.

I wondered about the neck & hands. I did notice Caitlyn's large hands. Don't think hormones will fix those areas.

I bet she'll work with a voice coach soon.

I never thought Bruce had a deep booming voice (surprising since he smoked), so I guess Caitlyn could just try talking softer and whispery. Don't know if Caitlyn still smokes----beauty secret----don't!.

The transgender actress on Orange is the New Black has a man's voice as well, though it is not a deep, masculine voice. Caitlyn's voice isn't deep either. I don't think it matters really.

Once the male vocal chords have completely developed, there is just not as much 'going back' as one might like. The best you can do at that point is to just try and modify your voice, through coaching, to bring it up as much as you can.
Some can bring it up more than others. There is a lot of benefit in being able to transition when you are younger, going from m to f. If you are going from f to m, the hormones take care of it because that alone brings down your voice. It's kind of a 'one way street' kind of thing - a voice can be brought down but it's a whole other thing to try and bring it back up.
Hope that made sense. ![]()
