just curious......

 

all the south, north, and central americans i know identify by their COUNTRY or the area in which they are from. we are the USA.....or americans for short.

 

pope leo is the first american OR north american if you prefer.

pope francis is the first argentinian OR south american OR latin american if you prefer.

@Love my grandkids   Technically she is not wrong.  Pope Francis came from a country that is part of the Americas.....South America which makes him a South American.

To me (and I suspect many others) American means from the United States of America.  That's how I've always used it and always will.  I believe it's a fairly standard understanding. 

 

If I refer to someone from Latin America I'll say "Latin American."

 

If referring to someone from South America I'll say "South American."

His brother was interviewed mentioned when they were young one of their neighbors said he would be the first American Pope also that he knew even then he would be priest. Yes, agree attractive and looks healthy. Nice bonus!

I'm already in love with the new Pope and I'm not even not Catholic. May God bless Pope Leo XIV for a long tenure as the leader of the Catholic Church.

 

I understand that he is of mixed race, which is awesome, an excellent nod to the world's future.
