I have a friend that lives in Paris and the talk over there is they appreciate the coverage by the US but they also feel they don't talk to the locals enough to know the real story.   I guess what she was saying is the news media will try to make the stories big for ratings and don't always do due diligence.

Just like in the US, she says they'll leave in a few days and no one will be reporting about the aftermath.

I am guessing that every major news network in the world sends many journalists whenever there's a huge terrorist attack like this.  That's to be expected, IMO.

I'm not sure what "the real story" is that they aren't getting, but I've seen several people interviewed, some of them quite upset and emotional.   Do you know what "real story" she is referring to?

I stopped watching CNN.  They over-talk everything, hours and hours of coverage when there is nothing left to say.  Please understand that I'm NOT saying this event in Paris is unworthy of coverage, but they just beat things to death like that missing airliner.  Also, their long, long drug ads are tedious.  Now I watch Al Jazeera America.  Much more balance in the coverage, fewer ads.

I agree on many levels @HappyDaze, but they can really over-report at times. E.g. "look at me, almost getting killed in Hurricaine ____"!  Heh heh. They seem to be getting better about this, however. This  (Paris) is certainly an 'event' that has world-wide implications where in-depth coverage is needed. They knew when to claw back as well.

@Adelina and @HappyDaze, lol, that reminds me of the Murphy Brown (starring Candace Bergen, for the 1980s) episode when all the reporters are trying to show how dedicated they are about reporting on this hurricane. They head down to Florida to report on it and I think Frank nearly gets blown out to sea. It was really funny and I think, in the end, they all wind up in a local bar sheltered from the storm.

I've jst never understood why it's so important to have the reporter standing next to the tornado as they report on it. I get that you want the camera footage, but having a reporter there seems like excess silliness... realy a bit of vanity.

Interesting how differently people see things.  Someone on these boards last night was quite shocked that CNN stopped the French news & ran a regularly-scheduled program (Bourdain's food program).  They just picked up again when that show was over.  Don't know how long they stayed with it because I had to go to bed.

I appreciate CNN's coverage. I love France and have many friends there. I have visited France over 20 times, so yes I want to hear everything that is happening. This is what CNN does best. In addition to my own intense interest, the US needs to be aware of what is occurring in Europe because the terrorists put us in the same category as the Europeans. They detest us and want to destroy us. We'd better pay attention to what is going on in Europe because we may be next.

MSNBC and CNN are by far better than FOX for so many reasons.  No matter who you vote for.  And CNN will not go broke having reporters flying from place to place.

I'm having a hard time listening to Wolf Blitzer. He sounds panicked regardless of what he's saying.
