I've posted in the Home section before on the enchanting Christmas markets that pop up often in central  and eastern Europe-- Poland, Germany, Hungary, Austria.  They're a wonderful holiday tradition--

Now there's been another car attack on peaceful attendees at a German event in Magdeburg, ruthlessly mowing down the unsuspecting, killing 2 so far, and wounding 60.   Shades of the Berlin attack, which occurred about 8 years ago, I believe.

The two good things are that the perpetrator --  reportedly a doctor (!)--  has been arrested.  And, initial reports said that there may have also been a bomb in the car, and if there was, that did not deploy, thankfully.

Very sad state of affairs.  Saying prayers for the victims and their families.  Security must be hardened for these events, as we don't want to lose such lovely traditions.

Re: CHRISTMAS MARKET TRAGEDY

Another awful tragedy. So sad and again I wish it never happened. Thinking of the families who lost their loved ones and those who are injured.

Re: CHRISTMAS MARKET TRAGEDY

This really weirded me out.  One of my coworkers was there on Sunday on a vacation with his family.  He had to come back on Wednesday because we had a meeting yesterday.  First time any of us have ever said we are  so glad we had that meeting.  Just terrible.

Re: CHRISTMAS MARKET TRAGEDY

The scene had to be horrifying. The perpetrator who carried out this act had to be pure evil. It's so sad that the joy of this, lovely celebratory tradition, will now forever carry a frightening memory of injury and loss. I'm saddened for all involved.

So ironic I was at the hairdresser this morning and a client had just come back from there.  I'm sure she is glad to be home.

Extremely sad news in a very, very beautiful place.

RIP dear victims, and wishing the injured complete recoveries.

Keep safe, everyone.  And the best of good luck always.

@Oznell   This is so sad. Another horrific event where innocent people lose their lives or are injured at the hands of a totally evil being. I can't even call someone like that, human. Smiley Sad

Re: CHRISTMAS MARKET TRAGEDY

What a shame. To ruin such a lovely event. I guess we haven't quite cornered the market on mean-spirited lunatics in our country.

This happened in Berlin a number of years ago with significant loss of life.

While there appear to be no "credible" threats here, the NYPD has proactively increased security,  surveillance and patrols at the many Holiday Markets such as Columbus Circle, Union Square and Bryant Patk.
