On both humans and animals.
"In trying to prove a point about how easy it is for a tick to go unnoticed, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention managed to bug out thousands of social media users.
On May 4, the CDC posted a photo of a poppy seed muffin, which at first glance looks perfectly tasty.
But the accompanying tweet revealed that some of those little black dots on top of the breakfast pastry aren't actually seeds, but creepy, crawly ticks."
Do you see them?

Be vigilant, Lyme disease is incurable.

They are so very small. I had a tick bite many years ago when my DH and I were cleaning our yard. Didn't even realize it until a few days later. Dr. put me on antibiotics for 30 days.
We have a friend whose wife suffers from Lyme disease - she has good days and bad days - mostly bad days.
It is so scary.

I spotted them before scrolling down to the second muffin.

Deet & Permethrin are my BFFs

Good! Then you're aware of how closely to look for them!
Many people aren't, which was the point of this thread.

We actually live in the woods and our landscape is natural so ticks are just a way of life in the summer. I have been bitten and was very sick from the bite and the tick was only embedded for a few hours. Thank goodness the tick was not carrying Lyme Disease. I have been bitten a few times since then, but for some reason now I am allergic to their saliva and I feel them bite immediately and I remove the tick asap.My cat will have a tick or two on him even though I put a high priced tick and flea collar on him. I check my cat everyday to make sure he is not carrying them around.

My DH is into geo-caching (think scavenger hunt using GPS devices) and tromps through woods and swamps.
He sends his geo-caching clothes to a company that treats his clothes with Permethrin (which is said to be the best defense against ticks) and it lasts for 70 washes.

There was a vaccine for Lyme Disease but its manufacturer discontinued production in the early 2000's. It was said to be 90% effective. Various factors combined to doom the product: general suspicion of vaccines, it was rumored to cause joint pain (arthritis), cost ($150 for three doses), and most insurances didn't cover it. Further, doctors weren't sure how broadly to prescribe it. Plus, it worked only on the North American strain of the bacteria. For more info, see the article in Vox..

@KingstonsMom Can you give me the name of where he sends his clothes to? I need to do that! Thanks!
