Earlier today I was watching a morning show, waiting for a featured guest interview ..... and the local news interrupted programming to watch a helicopter over a car pursued by police.   The news anchors were doing their best to not sound boring ..... but who cares?

I can't help but wonder if some of these criminal nutjobs will be thrilled they were on TV!

Do you find these televised car chases to be stupid and unnecessary ... or do you watch them?

They are stupid, but I still watch them!

I'm not into such things.  It seems like it's always when you are waiting for something you really want to see and then they cut into it with something that should be on CNN or the 6:00 news.

We get these 'EAS' things that the cable company does - like, it might rain 200 miles from here or something. It completely blocks out any programming and even if you are watching something recorded it takes you out of it.  You can't opt out (trust me, I've tried).   It's profoundly annoying.  Smiley Sad

When I lived in LA they would be on almost daily, that's how often it happens there. Some of them went on (with coverage) for hours and were total snoozefests. I never bothered with those. Others would be in rush hour traffic with drivers/cars being hijacked at gunpoint, hitting multiple other cars, speeding, crashing, jumping out of cars and running through back yards, etc. Those I tended to watch because clearly they wouldn't be able to go on very long. Occasionally you would see someone shot on live TV; there was probably a "live" death or two over the years. You get pretty immune to most of the chases, though.

Re: CAR CHASE PRE-EMPTIONS

[ Edited ]

Around the time of the OJ chase(?), a car chase seemed to occur every Friday afternoon in the LA area. I always followed them on CNN!

I do not believe televising such behavior is in anyone's best interest.  The chase in L.A. this morning could have caused harm to people because an idiot photographer attempted to take a picture of suspect while he was stopped.   Had the chase been handled by P.D without publicity, the suspect wouldn't have had his moment of fame.

I watch them w/a smile on my face.  Then I laugh when the driver suddenly stops, jumps out the car, truck or bus (they stole) & falls to the ground spread eagle.

Anybody notice these guys always has on a bright white wife beater??? Smiley LOL

My all time favorite was some years ago that took place I believe in Cally.  Bank robbers in full body armour from head to toe! Smiley Surprised

The car chase & the shootout must have lasted for several hours.  I was glued to my tv.

At least a car chase is more exciting than being interrupted to watch hours and hours of a window washer stuck on his scaffold.

Hi @Tinkrbl44,

Said on several forums that I only watch programs that I DVR. No commercials, and I can Fast Forward with these choices: 15X/60X/300X speeds. At 300, that is that much faster than regular real time watching.

Only DVR show I want to watch, and watching a 1 hour show in a little over or under 40 minutes. High speed chases are not on my "to watch" list? I can find all the vehicle chases I wantbto see on Tru TV.
