He apparently is having financial difficulties and will be auctioning off some of his items.

Story is at Yahoo News.

I hope he gets back on his feet soon.

the story i read a few days ago made a point to say it was not because of financial troubles but that he had amassed so much and was finding that at his age it was becoming more difficult to keep up/deal with all the items.

In the past he filed bankruptcy and in 2011 had a foreclosure on some property he owned. They said he's even auctioning off his Golden Globe statue. Sad.

Wonder what happened? They always blame it on their accountants.....usually they live beyond their means in reality.....or they have a gambling addiction.

I've read conflicting reports on the reason for the auction too.

I thought quite a few years ago, he was in same problem. he must sell items to get cash into his house when his coffers get low.

acting jobs are probably far and few between , he is up there in years.

when smokey and bandit movies left the movie circuit, he pretty much left the circuit too.

You know, most of us who don't live an opulent life style with money flowing from the faucets, plan ahead if possible with TSA's, mutual funds, and whatever investments we can possibly afford. You mean, he thought the lifestyle would go on forever with no attention to the future? It always amazes me how many celebs, pro athletes, etc. end up bankrupt as they live the high life while the rest of us just plod on trying to assure our retirement futures. It's not that I don't like Burt Reynolds, but come on, I just can't muster up a lot of sympathy when I survived on a teacher's salary, own my home, and STILL managed to plan for my financial future.

The last time he had financial woes he had had a long and serious mysterious illness. It was rumored to be AIDS but as I recall that rumour was false--he was just really sick for several years. (I was moonlighting as an entertainment journalist back then--there were lots of rumors, but it turned out to be something like chronic fatique syndrome or Lyme disease, I think--a debilitating but hard to diagnose illness.

He did a lot of good for Martin county in FL, where he is from--very generous in supporting charities there. So some of his money went to his community.

Many many years ago, we were stuck in traffic in Las Vegas. In chatting with the cab driver, we said " I guess you see a lot of celebrities?" He said the rudest ever was Burt Reynolds.
