Bunion surgery

I am facing bunion surgery- it is a pretty severe bunion- doctor is strongly recommending I do it- my question- has anyone had it- was is the recovery time? I am thinking early Oct- but my daughter is getting married in April- so I really need to be functioning pretty quickly- any thoughts? Did you have to use crutches? Boot? Its my left foot so I should be able to drive.
