I don't blame the internet....the only thing the internet is guilty of is giving people an avenue to voice their opinions - the treatment and reaction of people towards others is on them not the internet

Very good point, though I think not looking eye to eye with another poster makes it much easier to be rude to others. Its hard to look a person in the eyes and be purposely rude or hurtful.

I think the internet serves as a middle man so to speak. But I wouldn't be shocked that those who are as nasty as they are online, aren't as nasty in person. If not to someones face, definitely behind their back.

I think it's the anonymity of the internet. It gives some people a sense of superiority, a sense of being better than others, more intelligent, very MY way or NO way. Probably someone who never played well with others in life, and they can't play well with others online either.

True...but IMO there is an innate nature within a persons character that defines whether they are naturally nice or naturally mean just like those who are naturally optimistic while others are natural pessimists.
