What happened to parenting?
Teachers are responsible. The police. Social Workers. School counselors. Intervention specialists. Case workers.Security guards and metal detectors in schools. Every other person is responsible.

hi Snowpuppy, I know what you're saying, and I agree totally. So, where ARE the parents?

Bullying has always been a problem- on the bus, in the bathrooms, on the playground, in the cafeteria, etc- and not just in schools. Students use phones to send text messages, Instragram photos, or tweets to pick on others (you know, with the phones they're not allowed to have visible during the school day, but their parents buy them for them so they can "keep in touch"). Teachers can write referrals on bullying behavior, but with all of the lawsuits everyone is exposed to, you have to have EVIDENCE before you write a referral or they won't call someone down for their behavior. Even if you witness a child saying something nasty to another child and you discipline the behavior or refer it to administration, many times they'll get a "warning" because admin doesn't want to tell parents that they have a bully for a child. You do not "intercept" bullies, because you do not EVER touch a student. If you see a conflict in the hallway and physically pull students apart, I guarantee they will review the videos and if there is any way you could have handled it without touching a student, YOU will be disciplined and/or fired. Times have changed.

I was taught ""it starts at home"" but now it seems it's easier to blame others than accepting your parenting duties.

I know a psychologist who had a practice. He counseled kids who were bullied and kids who did the bullying. He quit his practice and dedicated his life to get schools involved and set up programs in schools all over the USA (as to how best to handle bullying). Yes, it has always been around but it is much worse now ...I think. Sadly, he died a couple of years ago due to a malignant brain tumor. His name was William Voors. His book is for sale on Amazon and he has written others. They are everywhere (bullies that is ).......You are lucky if you haven't come up against many. I have had to deal with several in my adult life. You can learn from them. They are great teachers (the bullies). They teach you how NOT to be.

No where else in the whole world do I deal with such mean people. That is saying something loud and clear about this forum.
You must not get out much.

That cuts both ways with teachers who have no respect for parents or students. Teachers lost our respect when they began raping our children. That goes for scout leaders, coaches, and clergy, also.

And in my many years of teaching, I knew several less than ideal parents too. Still, I don't think I'll choose to be quite as hostile to parents as you seem to be to the members of my profession. On 1/20/2014 ROMARY said:Lack of respect toward teachers, who normally would intercept bullies and keep order on the school premises.
