Now that the kids see all they have to do to get a day off is call in a threat, this will probably become the norm. No doubt kids in other cities will try it too.

@Kachina624, I can remember being in high school in 1967 when bomb threats were called in. We all had to evacuate to the quad for about 15 minutes and then let back inside. Happened a few times, don't think anyone was ever caught, but serious consequences were on the plate we were told.

Kids have been calling in bomb threats for DECADES!!!

It happened at my high school back in the 1980's.

The EIGHTIES!

And I know that it has happened before then, too.

So a kid calling in a bomb threat to get out of a test, is NOTHING NEW.

But, we don't know....best to err with caution....NYC is probably better equipped to handle threats because they get them so often and have dedicated an incredible amount of assets to fight terrorism....

Well - here's the thing - Bratton was formerly the LA police chief - best one we ever had, IMO. He left LA because he clearly wasn't happy (politics, etc. presumably). He may very well not have liked LA's current chief (Beck) when he was here as chief, or he continues to keep an eye on LAPD cases and thinks Beck is not a good chief (I would agree). The first thing that came to mind, as an LA resident, is that this is Bratton taking a swipe at Beck and/or the LAPD, more than anything else. What he said is probably correct, but he didn't HAVE to say it.

I heard Mayor Giuliani on tv tonight and he said he felt that it may not have been so much a hoax as a probe to discern the different reactions the threat would evoke. Interesting.

I think Giulliani was great also. 

Now, here in L.A., we now know how something like this may go down if it does.  What the real awakening was for the parents.  They now have to have a family plan should something like this actually happen.  Schools are only responsible to get them out and off the property.  The parents/guardians are responsible for getting them home or to safety.  It's a learning lesson for all involved.  We will be ready.
