As I have gotten older I realize there are so many things in life that you cannot understand without going through it yourself. This is definitely one of them.

You can sympathize but not really understand it. If he is a women inside when he transitions will be attracted to women or men? I cannot imagine what it must be like to have your father or husband or son become the opposite gender.

You're right, it's not that simple. In fact, there are people born that look like a woman but their chromosomes are XY. Also, that look like a man, but their chromosomes are XX.

How would you treat someone going through this process? Last year I went into my local UPS store. The person working there was transitioning from a man to a woman. She was like Bruce, with longer hair, painted fingernails and was also wearing a blouse and skirt. This woman walked in behind me and must have addressed this person as "Sir" at least 5 or 6 times. It was apparent she was doing this on purpose and sounded quite smug with an exaggerated tone. I felt so bad when I left the store. I can't imagine how hard this process must be with all the comments, glare and stares.
