Don't get me started on this. I understand that some people do keep their pets outside with appropriate shelter but, IMO, it's far too cold for that now.

None of my dogs have ever been nor will any of my dogs every be "outside" dogs. I don't understand the concept of outside dogs or cats, unless the cat is ferral. But I do know there are a lot of people who leave their animals outside 24/7.
Yesterday when I got home from work, I put both my dogs outside to do their business. It was extremely cold and on top of that our deck and yard are totally snow covered. For the most part, they have been doing everything right up on deck and coming back in. Normally I wouldn't be happy about that but in this weather, I certainly don't care.
They both ended up down in the yard walking around because something caught their eyes. My older one finally came up the steps and was limping so badly, by the time he got halfway across the deck he was crying loudly. I ran out with no coat on and slippers on my feet with a dishtowel to hurry and wipe off his feet. His problem was the bottoms of his feet were painfully cold!
they weren't even outside 5 minutes and it was that bad for him.

Good reminders to help the outdoor cats & dogs. I too don't understand people putting their furry friends outside to the exposure of dangers like bad weather, other animals, bugs, disease, road traffic, people who do mean things to animals ( like putting poison out) etc.

We do not let our pets (cats) out to begin with. I learned that as a child when we would let our cat out. Some evil person ran our kitty over with a car on purpose. My brother saw it. So our cats. all 4 of them, remain in doors.

Oh man that story makes me soooo sad & mad at the same time. How can people be mean to animals. I'll never get it. ![]()

I have never understood why people will get pets and then leave them tied up outside all the time. It's just heartbreaking.

In bad areas, some people will get a large dog and leave it chained up outside to deter would-be intruders. It's also not uncommon for drug dealers and thieves to keep dogs outside so they will know if cops are about to raid the property.

We have three dogs and I would NEVER leave them outside at night. In the day, if we are out, they can be. We have a big fenced yard. It breaks my heart when they are left out, and we have knocked on a few people's doors about it.

I am seeing so many posts on my FB page about dogs that have frozen to death lately. I'd like to put the owners outside and let THEM freeze.
I've seen a link somewhere where you can email them and they mail out a letter to the owner of the pet. Your name/address is never mentioned. I would also be contacting the police and local humane society for help.

Some states have laws against tethering ( chaining or tying up )dogs & some have pending anti tether laws in the works.
