We are going to relatives on Christmas Eve, like we do every year. Each year we bring an appetizer, as does everyone else.

I just found out today the hosts now want everyone to also bring a bottle of wine because they want to reduce their costs of the party since they also have to have basically the same party the next day (Christmas Day) with their family again.

This family lives in a half million dollar home, they just downsized into. They both did just retire so I can see they are watching their money. But I find it a tacky suggestion. I can see them not offering hard liquor anymore, as they used to serve wine and mixed drinks. But don't host a party and ask everyone else to supply the food and drink.

In the past years they also went from a formal dinner to just the appetizers, which we all provide. Which is fine, I prefer appetizers to a big dinner anyway. And then the host would usually have ham for sandwiches etc.

Now I'm not sure if I should also bring separate drinks for my kids too?!
