Bridal Registry

Does anyone work at a store that has a bridal registry, or has anyone ever done this...

If there is an item on a Bridal Registry and you can find the exact same item at another store for a much lower cost, can you contact the original store and tell them to remove it from the registry even though you didn't buy it there?

I found something for $100(!) less, but don't know if it proper to contact the store, or just take a chance that no one else is going to buy this pricey item.
