Poor lil fella, I love 'our' racoons but they are mischievous for sure!

They can be aggressive. My sister had an encounter with one. Taking out the trash. He growled at her. She just tossed the bag and ran back into the house.

HANOVER, Va. (WWBT/Gray News) - The raccoon broke into the store through the ceiling during the early morning on Nov. 29. Virginia ABC said the animal damaged the security system, triggering a power outage alert from the security company.
An animal control officer safely secured the “very intoxicated raccoon” and took it to a shelter to recover.
After several hours of rest, the raccoon did not show signs of injury and was released back into the wild.

I hope they released it near that store. Raccoons are territorial.
They do growl, it's a defensive action, but they will scratch or bite if provoked so better safe than sorry because they are known rabies carriers.

Saw something on the news recently, prior to this story, about how urban raccoons are becoming domesticated and may be pets one day.

When I was a kid, fed some raccoons who visited daily. They were cute and would do "tricks" on the back porch railings with their narrow "feet." But they started to come in the daytime. A teacher to told me that was a no-no, so I reluctantly stopped.

Over the summer, I looked out into the backyard one night to see EIGHT raccoons in the backyard. Without my glasses on, I thought they were little bears
They would hop/hunt (grubs and worms, I think) and sing to each other. I would hear them singing to each other, babies and Mommas, while they hop-hunted, and sometimes get up in the middle of the night to watch them. In the morning, they'd leave and go back to wherever they lived.

A week or so ago when I was taking our two dogs out for "last pee," once outside they both stopped cold and stared in the same direction. The dogs were as still as can be. I could not figure out what they were looking at. It was dark outside. But as my eyes adjusted, I could see way back along our white fence line, something walking along the fence. As it got closer to our side of the yard, I could see it was a raccoon. Then out of some weeds, another one popped out. They ran into the woods behind my neighbor's house. To this day I am still amazed that they both saw the raccoon in the dark. Maybe they smelled it first.
