I'm not the only fact checker, so why is the population more obese than ever before? Type 2 diabetes more prevalent? Heart attack and stroke, high cholesterol & high blood pressure on the rise as well?
Could it be we were better off before we knew all this info? Maybe our bodies can't digest or adapt to all this extra fiber and grains I'm just hearing about.
Diabetes is no more common....it is just recognized sooner and treatment is initiated. The American Diabetes Association changed the criteria for diagnosis and people are being helped sooner which vastly decreases complications.
I grew up in a household where my mom was a nutritionist and fed me all healthy food. She cooked everything from scratch and allowed little to no refined sugar but I still suffer from cardiovascular disease in my early 60's. Genetics and stress play a large role in health issues.

My next test will be this year and I'll definitely keep an eye on this.

Regardless of what's in your $1 bread vs your $4 loaf, it's never a good idea to eat the same food every day. One can develop food allergies, etc. I always rotate what I eat with the exception of my protein smoothie each morning which I feel addicted to which I don't like feeling. So, that routine too will end for awhile.

I don't really eat bread. I can't even remember the last time I bought a loaf of bread.
I occasionally will eat an English muffin or half a pita.
I love a good sourdough or a crusty baguette with dinner. I can buy half a loaf of that and have a small piece.
The only time I really allow myself a splurge is pizza. I usually order a pizza salad LOL

Looks good on paper, but for many...the first sign of
heart disease is a heart attack/stroke.
Hopefully not fatal.
That's were you hear of the 'he was so healthy & exercised every day'
in their obituary.
Sometimes numbers don't tell the whole story.
Just takes that one little piece of 'quiet' plaque...to change your life.
I speak of this on a personal level.
I have a good friend who is slender, normal BMI, body fat 17-18%, low pulse rate, perfect biomarkers, works put all the time....then had a stroke 5 yrs ago. She did the 'beach body' shakes, chicken'broccoli, protein bit. She 'looked' healthy, very fit....but she wasn't. That's why I'm so passionate about this...I see her struggle w/ the after effects & it breaks my heart.

Dave's Killer Bread is f.a.i.r.l.y. clean.
If I have to have that rare piece of toast, I usually go for one of these.
Whole Foods, Sprouts, Central Market...look for it.

@sidsmom I've tried those before. Some of the seeds though were rather big and hurt my teeth but the bread was hearty and filling....nothing I could posibly binge on.

Bread (in all it's forms, LOL) is one of my loves since childhood.
Plus some of my health conditions require it.
And it's been determined that fiber-rich grains are healthy for your body.
Especially for maintaining a healthy weight.
Like with other carbs, I mostly eat whole grain and multigrain versions with at least 3 grams of fiber.
And try to control myself re: how much throughout the day. ;-)

I do a combo of things. I've cut back substationally, I mill my own flour and bake my own whole grain bread but I do sometimes also eat white bread products.
