From what I've read, a physiatrist is not an MD and needs far less training than an MD.

Correct me if that is incorrect, please. But I wouldn't be limiting treatment for a brain injury to a physiatrist.

yes, physiatrists are MD's ---they treat pain such as bursitis, back issues ---to me, Dr Sparr was the last stop before surgery---they also refer to medical massage---I can't imagine them treating "brain" issues----i don't know what this means--I have a condition that is treated by a particular type of DR and is controlled with medication

Do you have a source for that, sylvia? Because I've looked at more than 5 sources for education requirements and not found that to be true.

It's basically a four year college degree and some medical classes. Nowhere was it specified that those classes had to be from a reputable medical university.

An MD can practice as a physiatrist, but it's not a requirement. It can also be a DO.

I don't, Noel---I went to one for 4 years--was referred by a neurosurgeon and orthopedic surgeon---doctors specializing in pain management are MD's

Not all are MDs, sylvia. Doctorates are given in other areas. Years ago, I had a chiropractor with a doctorate who treated me for pain.

After Medical School, a Physiatrist attends a 3-4 year residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Physiatry is a non-surgical specialty, treating musculoskeleton and neurological conditions.

An MD can be practice as a physiatrist, but it's not a my quote of yours is going to be scrambled up with yours (iPad issues)----your statement regarding MD's being physiatrists is very accurate---my doctor is an MD who is a pain management doctor---yours is an accurate statement and now that I understand your POV, mine is too

I already googled, not all schools for medicine can give an MD. I'm surprised you didn't know that.
