Re: Body of Hoarder Found in Home After 5-Day Search DALLAS AUTHORITIES HAD TO CUT HOLES IN THE ROOF

The worst is when those poor cleaners end up disturbing somebody's happy home when they look under all that filth.

The worst ones (in my opinion) are the animal hoarders. My heart breaks for those poor innocent creatures, trapped in filth.

Why does the owner do it? Because they "love" them.

That's not love.

The animal welfare organizations see a lot of that, too, but the hoarders are rarely held accountable.

Yes, there's a mental health issue (I'd hate to think that behavior's normal), but 120 cats and one litter box is nothing short of animal abuse nonetheless.

G-d bless the people who rescue those poor animals from those horrid conditions.

I know that I couldn't do it. I would go home in tears every night.

The animals end up using the floor for their business, and it just piles up, and piles up, and they walk through it.

Ugh!

You just know that those places stink to high heaven.

Was Yuban, then changed to Plaid Pants due to forum upgrade, and apparently, I'm back to being Yuban.

That was brought up with this Dallas case...as well as other cases I've seen on TV...the neighbors are disgusted w/ the rodent problem before the cleanup, but there's a bigger chance it's gonna be much, much worse for a while until the rodents dissipate to another location to call home. Eeps!

I have a friend who is a hoarder, thank goodness she is now going to a counselor to discover the reasons behind why she does this. I'm so glad she has come to her senses but she has to go through each piece of trash so it is hard to get anywhere when I try to help her. She is an intelligent person and her person is always clean.

With animal hoarding, the owners usually surrender them to Animal Control/SPCA.

ETA: Moonlady....reason they don't prosecute is the hoarder is mentally challenged.

Yes, they do. And for that, they're often not prosecuted.

The other night I watched an episode with 3 hoarders living together. A pair of twins (Loren and Oren) and an older brother. How sad is that????{#emotions_dlg.sad}{#emotions_dlg.sad}

I only caught a bit of this show, the part about all the roaches crawling all over the place! One of the men was cooking on the stove and there were roaches crawling all over the stove, I had to immediately change the channel .............. disgusting!!!

These people are mentally ill!

How sad. Hoarding is a mental health issue.

That's why all those shows provide funds for ""aftercare"".

My mother is like your friend. I wish she would see a counselor. When I talked to her about it 2 days ago, she seemed less resistant to the idea. However, I suggested she get counseling for her grief and not specifically the hoarding tendencies she has...but if she begins addressing her grief, I believe it will have a positive affect on her hoarding tendencies. I am seeing a counselor, and I am trying to get her to see that the benefits I've obtained from the counseling I've had over the years can happen for her as well, and that it takes time to make changes...change won't happen in leaps and bounds, it will happen in small steps.

The house isn't bad right now, because I've gone over there and helped clean and my brother is trying to help too when he is in town...but I'm afraid of what will happen after my dad dies.
