If I were nearby, I would go. My son will be flying in navy.  I saw the Blue Angels fly three times the end of May.  (They were flying over the USNA, they had a practise, an airshow the next day, and flew over to salute the newly commissioned navy and marine officers.)

Do the math.

They appear where I live every August.  They are an awe inspiring sight but I always wonder if they are a good way to spend taxpayer money.

We live on the way to the airport..yesterday we saw the plane with the remains and his family fly over along with a huge helicopter..saw the motorcade drive by...

We will head into town later today to watch the Angels fly over in formation with one plane missing...we actually should be able to see them at our house because we are in the flight pattern for incoming and outcoming aircraft...which isn't that much in Durango...

We'll see how crowded town is ....DW

DiAnne, the Blue Angels pilots are active duty  Navy & Marine Corp pilots. This is considered a tour for them, they serve 2 years then return to the regular fleet.

@dancingwoman  I was surprised that a plane as large as the one that delivered the remains could land at the Durango Airport.  I think they said a C-130, which is a huge plane.  This is all so sad.

Did you hear that a plane from Russia's flight demonstration team crashed this week and the pilot killed?  They say things happen in threes.

@Kachina624

No I didn't hear about the Russian accident...I feel for the pilots family.

The Durango Airport has expanded...I don't know the last time you were here but it's grown a lot  since we moved here in 1977 when  it was a little shack in the middle of a field...And there are expansion plans on the ballot this fall..It can handle the huge planes that they use to fight forest fires...and good sized jets now...not just those vomit comet props...

We didn't go into town today..From what I hear it was packed..you know how little our streets are and there is little room with all the big trucks people drive now...And we have one too so parking spaces are a premium...

The Blue Angels flew right over our house...they came from town...banked to the East...One veered off South...must have been heading to Albuquerque..maybe...the others looked like they were headed to Denver...or Co Springs...

Its amazing how fast they fly...one minute they were right over us..the next gone..not even dots in the sky...

There truly is an angel in heaven as I read the link.  May God Bless Jeff Kuss & his family; his impeccable service as well as the ultimate sacrifice.  The epitome of a Hero.
