Re: Bizarre USPS related problem

Since last year, I have been receiving mail intended for various names that seem to possibly be from the same family. At first it all had a change of address labels from USPS. The past 3 months or so I now get mail for these people from senders that actually have my address, not even a change of address label. This is suspicious, to say the least. I would not be surprised if the DEA or other law enforcement show up to break in my door at some point.

The local USPS is absolutely no help and I haven't been able to reach anyone at the post office official customer service number. I was hoping that they had a "receive call back" option but they don't. Wait time today was 29-37 minutes.

It's obvious these people are super evasive and I belive may be criminal. I really don't want my address to be associated with them. Anyone here ever have this problem?

We receive mail from St. Jude for donations.  It has our address on it but my MIL name.  I've lived in my home for 8 years now and we still get mail for the previous owners.  He still lives in the same town, but a different community.  He owns a lot of businesses and works at an investment company.  You'd think he'd be on top of that a bit more.

I noticed the "A" under your screen name.  Is that for the University of Alabama?  My daughter will be going there this fall.

One more thing you might do is mark through the USPS bar code at the bottom of the envelope.

I'm just thinking since USPS uses that to sort and track each piece, if you return it and a processor doesn't catch where you write "not at this address" it might go back through the system and get sorted and delivered incorrectly again.

On the bottom of the envelope mark through the barcode that looks like this:

I hope you get it stopped. @Desertdi story upthread is so scary!

Mail Fraud

Maybe you can find some answers at the USPS link I posted above.  It so upsetting that scams are overtaking our daily lives.  I almost didn't open a jury duty email because I didn't know the courts had my email address, so assumed it was a scam.

This is the fault of lazy sorters.  It's so easy to just throw it in the sorting cubicle  for you, not pull it and have to do something else with it.  I've had addresses in the past with all kinds of mail coming through and some with zero coming through.  I used to be one so I've seen it happen.  I cannot speak to what your carrier is doing.

I heard back in Dec that starting in 2024, you would not be able to just fill out new address form, you would have to go to Post Office showing ID and something with new address so people can't just have mailed forwarded to wrong address.

JMO but I don't think calling them is going to do any good.  Here in NJ it's the same phone number for all the local post offices.

You may have to make a trip in person.

@debfau I saw that too, and it's on the USPS website for filing  a change of address. Unfortunately, these people changed their address to mine before the policy was implemented or the i.d. verification was not performed.

Re: Bizarre USPS related problem

if you are getting a lot of mail that is for other people, write "not at this address" and return it to your local post office in person. I know it's a hassle but I have found putting in my mailbox with the flag up didn't do much good. They took the mail but it still kept coming.

Re: Bizarre USPS related problem

Please allow me to clarify my above comment that I do not believe it's anything the USPS is doing wrong, they have no control over what others use as addresses. I know the USPS has its problems but I love my carrier and he always goes above and beyond for me. I just think the thieves and taking over.
