Birdhouse/Feeder Question

Does any one have an experiences with those "clear plastic" birdhouses or feeders that you attach to a window so you can get a good view of the birds? I'm thinking of getting a friend one for her birthday and just wonder if they work or if they are a waste of money. Some of them have some pretty good reviews on Amazon.
