I know, totally random, but does anyone have any binoculars they love? For watching birds, nature, taking on hikes, etc? My grandma has a birthday in a few weeks, and mentioned on the phone that she wanted some, so I figured I'd ask here. I'm thinking $100-200 range. Thanks for any guidance/info!

You may want to go the the Audubon website and see what they recommend.

Now for me I would get a 40x or 52x 1080p camcorder. Seen them for around $160 and you can not only see things very, very, very close you can take video of them and/or a snapshot.

I like getting more for my money and while I do have a pretty good pair of older binoculars for the auto races we attended? The new lenses on some SD/camcorders and the electronic stabilization make watching and recording and picture taking lots closer than my older binoculars.

I'm confused. I don't get the connection between binoculars and camcorders...what am I missing? As for bird watching, if you have a Wildbirds Unlimited store nearby, they could make some suggestions for good binocs for a decent price.

Zeiss makes very good binoculars and I believe, come in a wide range of prices.

You might want to do a search on Amazon and read the reviews of various binoculars.

I agree with hckynut. You can get digital cameras/camcorders with zoom lenses that put the best binoculars to shame. Not only can you use them to see the bird or whatever, but then you can record them for posterity. I saw in my Sunday paper where Canon now has a digital camera with a 50 X zoom lens. The ability to zoom in and out can also make it easier to find what you're looking for.

We use binoculars all of the time for boating, they are a must.

Go to Amazon and look at what they have, read the reviews. My mom is also a bird watcher. Don't buy binoculars that are too big or too heavy. If she's a novice, buy a decent pair that aren't too expensive. She will love them! It's a great gift idea.

My granddad has the type with the camera and loves it. He then downloads the photos and videos on his computer.
