Bickering Older Parents

Is it just my inlaws or when people get older late 70's and 80's do they bicker back and fourth much more? Yesterday (Christmas) it was just like who could bicker the first and cut the other down. Hubby and I were soooo disgusted, he wants to go away next year on Christmas Day.
