Delaware group sets May 1 rally to oppose virus quarantine restrictions

DOVER — A grassroots campaign opposing what organizers consider excessive quarantine restrictions imposed by Gov. John Carney to stem the COVID-19 pandemic plans to showcase its case at Legislative Hall.

A public “Reopen Delaware Rally” is scheduled for Friday, May 1, from noon to 3 p.m. It is sponsored by Delawareans Against Excessive Quarantine, an organization that urges fellow patriots to organize and work toward a reasonable solution to the COVID-19 global crisis.

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – The City of Rehoboth Beach has announced the cancellation of this year’s Independence Day fireworks show, scheduled for July 3rd.

In addition, the Bandstand Summer Concert Series has been canceled through the July 4th weekend. All permitted special events scheduled through the holiday weekend are also canceled.

“The health and safety of the community is our top priority and at the forefront of all decisions made during this unprecedented and rapidly evolving situation,” said Mayor Paul Kuhns. “It is difficult to accept that these cherished events cannot continue as planned this year. We look forward to the day when we can all come together once again and celebrate the events that make Rehoboth Beach such a wonderful and connected community.”

Governor Carney Announces School Closures

Friday, April 24: In consultation with superintendents across the state, Governor Carney announced today that schools are to remain closed schools through the rest of the academic year. This will be difficult for a lot of Delawareans and Delaware students. Nothing replaces in-person instruction, and the services that are delivered in our schools every day, but the health and safety of Delawareans is our first priority.

update for 5/1/2020

Under Governor Carney’s modified order, businesses must also take certain steps to keep their employees and customers safe.

By 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1, businesses must:

  • Require employees to wear a face covering while working in areas open to the public and in areas where coming within 6 feet of other staff is likely.
  • Provide, at the business’ expense, face coverings and hand sanitizer for their employees.
  • Deny entry to individuals who do not have a face covering – or if one is not available for them.
  • If any business denying entry is providing medication, medical supplies, or food, the business must provide alternate methods of pickup or delivery.

Delawareans are urged to use cloth face coverings and reserve medical-grade masks for use by health care workers and first responders. Medical-grade masks include N95, KN95, surgical, or other masks that would be appropriate for a health care setting.

Delawareans wearing a face covering should practice strict hand-washing before and after touching the face covering, according to the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH). Face coverings are not a replacement for washing hands, practicing physical distancing, and staying home. Delawareans who are sick should wear a face covering over their nose and mouth if they must be around other people – even while at home.

@sunshine45 - I'm so sorry. We have a lot of friends down there right now, so we're keeping track of things. A few days ago they said it's getting really bad.

@beach-mom

some of the restaurants that had been closed are reopening for carry out and curbside and delivery, but i know they are going to struggle until tourists and out of town property owners are allowed to be there.

it is sad.......

there is a hallmark store in the ocean view area. their landlord is almost forcing them out due to non payment of rent. they cannot be open, but are trying to get phone orders or set up a website. they are a mom and pop store.
