I have been purchasing Duracell batteries at Costco for years.  Never have had a problem.

I always buy my Duracell from Costco. Never, ever had any type of a problem with them.

We will never buy Duracell batteries again.  We've had problems for the past few years with them leaking and damaging the items they were in (including a digital camera; ruined it).

These weren't batteries that were old; they were still years in-date (many supposed to be good until 2022 and 2024) and I took photos to send to Duracell, but decided they weren't worth the effort.  Others who had complained on their website just got the runaround.

However, I did go online and do some research and there are hundreds (thousands?) of complaints out there about leaking Duracell batteries.  I will never risk any of our items again.  (I think they used to be made here, but now they're made in China.  Go figure.)

I've had batteries of all brands leak inside of things other than the original packaging. Cameras, flameless candles etc. It's usually because they are used up, and then left in things long term. I especially have had issues with AA size, not the others.

The date on the batteries is for unused, properly stored in the package batteries, and isn't of any use once the battery has been installed and used. Once installed in a device, the date is no longer applicable.

I know what the expiration date on batteries means. And I also know enough to not leave them in an unused device long-term.  I always remove batteries from anything I won't be using for a while.

I also know when batteries leaked and ruined things that were in regular use. I'm not stupid or uninformed.  An expensive flashlight we had suddenly stopped working. Opened it up to find that the batteries that had only been in it for a couple of months had leaked and ruined the terminals.

All of the batteries we had trouble with were purchased in multipacks.  We haven't had any issues with other brands and I'll reiterate: there are a LOT of consumer complaints about leaking issues with Duracell batteries.

If you've never had an issue, great. We have and will never trust them again.
