In my area people use ATMs at their own risk. The machines outside the actual banks, for example at the stores or inside booths, are not safe from crooks trying to steal your money. I would never go to one of those alone.

Unless you live in a very high crime area, theft arouind ATMs is always possible, I guess.  But, for that matter, pickpockets and purse sntchers are everywhere.  ATMs at bankss have a gazillion cameras around them and there's usually a security guard or two around ... you could ask them to stand nearby when you use the ATM.  No biggie..

My bank has closed their lobby where the ATM is located. The only ones I can use are in stores or booths around my city. I got rid of my debit card and I never use ATMs. The last time I used my debit card at an ATM there were beggars sitting right next to the machine and that made me very nervous!

Makes sense.    So, if you now have no debit card, how do you get cash?   Write a check at the bank for cash?

Exactly, I usually write a check at the grocery store for $25 over purchase amount or go to my bank for cash.

@Tinkrbl44  I really realize "there is no point in worrying about something that hasn't happened" is true.  I find it hard not to worry about my children and grandchildren. But,  that's JMO.

All the B of A branches in my area closed their drive in windows a couple of years ago.  I don't use the ATMs at my closest branch because they're in insecure locations.  If you have business, you have to go inside, coughing or not.

i know......i was quite upset about this when it happened. my b of a branch was so busy that they had THREE drive through lanes plus one atm lane. then they closed all except for the atm lane. i still have an account there, but i moved most of my business to a different bank in the same area.....better services for sure.

The banks I have been dealing with sent e-mails asking you to use the drive up. ATM, telephone or online banking. A lot of our older community have no access to computers or know how to use one but the only thing I can think of not using one of the options listed above would be if something was needed from a safety deposit box or had to sign papers for something.

I had to move money from one account to another earlier today and this transaction cannot be done online because of the specific physical paperwork and banks are adjusting accordingly.  I normally do everything through the ATM but please know if you need hands on assistance banks will be available.

I haven’t been inside my bank in years. I bank online and use an atm at a store if I need cash. I deposit checks using my iPhone. No good reason to have bank lobbies open right now. Use the staff to work the drive-thrus.

My bank is online as well, I will be withdrawing $200 a day until I have $1K in cash.
