Re: Back Fence in August - still hot!!!

Hello there Fencers ~ it's been humid for a week here and I wish I could open my windows and get a breeze. It's going to heat up today and tomorrow - upper 80's with heat index low 90's. I've been off for a few days (vacation) and have been doing major window/storms/blinds cleaning, so today is lawn day. Only I would wait until the hottest day of my vacation to cut grass {#emotions_dlg.blink}. I guess I should finish my coffee and get the grocery shopping done before I get sweaty and dirty.

In the cooler near the fence, I've added some fruit cones. There is ice cream beneath the fruit in the cone (yummy).

Re: Back Fence in August - still hot!!!

Hey mousiegirl, nice to have you at the back fence.

birdmama, those fruit ice cream cones do indeed look yummy.

Freddie sounds like you still have a house full........must be exhausting.

Epi hope you're feeling better.

I'm getting pretty good on my scooter; only a few nicked cornersWink.

I got a lift chair last week and it is sure helping me. It will recline so that my feet can be above my head. There are so many positions I haven't figured them all out, but I've noticed my ankles aren't as swollen and my feet don't hurt as much as they did.

Happy Monday all! Sue

Re: Back Fence in August - still hot!!!

The humidity has come back with a vengeance. We had some super nice days - hot but NOT HUMID any too much. Today it was right back to walking outside and the minute you step out, you are sweating. I just detest that and I look terrible as when I go somewhere I usually have to go in a store and people just stare at me. What can I say.

Just finished cleaning the cat boxes - detest doing that - gathering up all the paper, etc to put in the recycling container. Have most of it done but always must keep looking around for more paper and cardboard boxes to cut up. Lawn was mowed so that HUGE container is packed almost to the top - that is already out to the street. Next is garbage/trash. Need to check the Fridge to make sure I have no old stuff in there and also have the kids check in their private hiding spots. That drives me insane for sure.

Conrad goes to the doggie beauty shop in the morning - he needs it. LOL. If I can find the energy later on will fill the feeders for our feathered friends. They have eaten me out of house and home lately. I did clean and fill the bird bath earlier today so that is in good shape - for a while that is.

Told the kids they were on their own for dinner - bought them a bag of boneless things - like chicken wings. Also got some salad mix and they love that also so that is their dinner. I had someone bring over some home grown tomatoes so I will munch on those for dinner. I love them. I do not eat many tomatoes during the year as I will NOT eat the horrible things you buy in stores. The two places that use to grow them did not do that this summer so I have suffered. Did find some pretty good at a veggie stand in Mentone and I enjoyed those. I love tomatoes but as I said I cannot eat the horrible things you find in stores.

Hope all are well. And unfortunately STripes is not spending much time with us - just too many two and four legged critters here now. He is such a sweetheart but does not like a lot of confusion. I will say a prayer I can get him in tonight - past week he has only spent about 2 nights inside and is absent most of the day. I worry about him but cannot control that wild streak in him. He would not last if I forced him to stay inside 24/7.

Again, hope all are well and things are going great for each and every one of you.

Re: Back Fence in August - still hot!!!

Hey gang, I'm sittin' here side saddle on my scooter as it's comfy and easier than getting off and placing my chair here. Is that lazy or what?{#emotions_dlg.blushing}Lazy or not, it is sure a help for me and my breathing or lack thereof. I just rode out to the laundry room and started a load of laundry standing up to load clothes and turn the dials etc and then getting back on my steed or my go go gidget as I'm calling her and riding back here. I'm really enjoying the benefit.

Freddie, I have to tell you I am worried about you with all of your responsibilities. Is there any hope that everyone will soon be leaving your home? Are the kids in school yet? I remembered you saying that Tessa doesn't go all of the time with this new schedule or whatever it's called. If she's home a lot I hope she's helping you with all of the chores. You sure shouldn't have to be taking care of their pets as you have enough of your own to care for.

Has anyone heard from meuw? She and her husband were not well the last time she posted as I recall. meuw, if you're reading this, please check in with us and let us know how things are. Sherron I hope you too will check in with us as well as Betty.

Jim's out getting ready to mow the back yard. He had a small cancer removed from his face recently and hasn't been able to get out to do it as the doctor didn't want it to get infected. It was so difficult to bandage due to the location near his mouth and some of the incision was exposed somewhat. But stitches were removed on Tuesday and the wound looks fine and the doctor believes he got all of the cancer. I think there were seven stitches on the surface and some inside the incision. Doc did a good job as the scar barely shows now.

Birdmama, what a mess you had with the flooding in your basement. Thankfully it was no worse and more importantly thankful that you got home OK. This flooding over the country has been tragic for many and here we're finally getting some much needed rain for our scorched land.

We always watch and enjoy (mostly) America's Got Talent. If Howie Mandel would grow up it would be a much better show in our opinion, but nevertheless we enjoy many of the talented performers and acts. Unfortunately it often comes down to the singers and the other types of talents are ignored. I don't know how this could be resolved, but it seems seldom is someone chosen who is not a singer, last year being the exception and he was wonderful. Too often it seems it becomes a popularity contest rather than the best talent contest.

Leaving some more juicy CO peaches for all to enjoy. Happy Thursday all! Sue

QueenofO2 - it's great that you are taking advantage of the tools available to make your life easier. I knew you would master the scooter, you just needed to be patient with yourself.

Winifred - I don't know how you manage with all those extra people and animals in your house. I don't have the nerves for all the noise any more. My DH and I were pretty quiet people and since he's been gone, it's me and the birds. The older I get, the less drama I can handle.

I'm looking forward to the long holiday weekend and am grateful Labor Day is a paid corporate holiday for me. The weather forecast is rain, hot and humid for the entire weekend. I'm sure I'll find SOMETHING to do in the house. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Epicurean - I'm thinking about you and hoping that you are feeling even a little bit better.

Re: Back Fence in August - still hot!!!

Hello All!!! Nothing much going on. I had my 6mo. Check with my surgeon. All is well, and I don't have to see him again for 6mos. My 1 year exam. I am having a lot of abdominal pain, but the meds. Pretty much take care of it. I'll just be glad o have my procedure done and over with. Our new deck is turning out beautiful. What took us so long to do this????? They are making the top panels. They will fit not the openings so if the screen should tear it will be easy to replace just one section. The door will then go on plus our ceiling fan and one electric outlet inside and one out. I have already ordered furniture, as I did not want it to be gone by the time the deck was finished. it is a sectional piece with a coffee table. There are four seats and two others with sides. I think I will have four seat together, with ares, and the other two I will place at each end of the table, What do you think????. Would a outdoor rug be a good idea. I kind of like the idea. plus we still have room for our table and chairs. just can't wait till it's done. It is still so hot and humid here,YIKES! Today my daughter and her hubby return from vacation. we took the dog today for some surgery. she has had a nail that keeps bleeding and her paw is swollen. we talked to our daughter and she gave the go ahead to have what seems to be a tumor in her paw. so,I guess that in the way from the airport they will stop to pick up the dog,as my hubby is picking Them up. Yikes, it's always something. Hope everyone has a good weekend. we will just be staying home,as I don't like to travel on holidays. plus no vacation this year as we spent a small fortune on the deck but I know we will get a lot of use out of it as we get nice weather here in No. Va. For a LNG period of time. So much for my going Om and on. Hope everyone is well.

Re: Back Fence in August - still hot!!!

Epi, are you having a sunroom built on the deck? I'm trying to picture it in my mind.

Is it screened in, with the option to put in storm windows? Just thinking about the floor and furniture getting wet. I don't know too many people here who have sunrooms or Florida rooms - almost too cold to heat here in MI in the winter (trying to explain why I am so ignorant on the subject {#emotions_dlg.blush})

Guess I did confuse everyone a bit. It's a new deck that is being screened in. The bottom is screened with molding to hold it in place. The top will be screened panels that can come out if screen is damaged. the floor is decking with tongue and groove decking to keep bugs out. IT is all wood. The outdoor furniture won't get very wet,as it is large enough to keep furniture away from the screens. The cushion covers can come off for cleaning, and the furniture looks like wicker, but is made of a resin material that water won't harm it. Hope this explains it. I'll try to post a picture when it's finished....
