Baby showers ???

Want to ask if any of you get invited to a baby shower, is it generally that the couple is already married or do you get invites for unmarried couples.

Last year I went to a baby shower. My nephew was going to be a father but he and the girl were not married. So I went with a gift. Then a month later they were engaged and announced their wedding (she already owns a home). Shower gift, then wedding gift only to find out they were already married before the actual wedding.

Now I get a shower invite ... another nephew (brother to the one previously mentioned) is going to be a father. They are not married and have only dated about a year.

Does anyone find this a normal thing these days???
